7 Days Before The Trip

My parents were getting so stressed about my trip that they wanted me to come back home for a few days ! For those of you, who do not know I am originally from Benin, West Africa so that is where HOME is for me !!

So, I left Btown on saturday 26th june and I arrived in Cotonou, BENIN on sunday 27th evening. I stayed three days and left wednesday 30th june night to go back to Boston. I got there on thursday July 1st. And finally, left Btown to Mexico City on saturday july 3rd.

It was a tiring journey back home, since it was the first time ever that I went directly from Btown back to Benin, I usually always stop in Paris, France. So Ihad a 7-hour flight from Btown to Paris then a two-hour wait in Roissy CDG before taking another 6-hour flight from Paris to Benin. On the way back, I took again a 6-hour flight from Benin to Paris, but I had to wait SIX hours in ROISSY CDG before boarding my 7-hour connecting flight to Btown!!! I was so TIRED afterwards, OMG so much traveling for such a short stay OMG I am like NEVER doing that again LOL.

But it was pretty cool to be back HOME even for three days, I got to see my parents, my brother and some old high school friends. The weather was perfect! I got to DRIVE like I LOVE to hahaha :D !! I got to eat local food that I do not get to eat in Btown etc etc. It is ALWAYS good to be back home for a little while.

Then, of course, I could not stay longer than 3 days because I had a flight to catch on saturday to go to Mexico City.

Welcome To My World

11 days Left Until My Trip Starts...

I am starting to be scared...

I should not be...I have already traveled alone before...hmm really?! hmm yeah ??I guess so..but really by myself?!! hmm don't remember! Always had a friend along...I think !

But six months A-L-O-N-E in South America, where I have never been before and know nobody...interesting.

No, I am not going on vacation for six months but Yes at some points it will feel like it Lol :-D . I am enrolled in a self-customized-six-month international coop in Central & South America based on two of my passions: Traveling and Medicine.

For those of you who don't know: here is THE plan.

It will all start on July 3rd, I will get to Mexico City around 1pm. Sleep the night in the hotel of the airport. Take my connection the next day early in the morning to Puerto Escondido.

I will stay in a host family there until August 6th, and will be working as a clinical assistant through CFHI at local clinics and hospitals.

On August 7th, I will go to Oaxaca City, where I will be staying with another host family until September 3rd, and will also be working as a clinical assistant there.

By sept 3rd evening, I should have returned to Puerto Escondido and on the 4th I am starting my Mayan Sun trip through Gap Adventures.

The trip starts sept 4th in Cancun and runs all the way to Guatemala stopping at few spots along the way including in Belize; for a duration length of 14 days.

On sept 18th, I will manage to get from Guatemala to San Jose, Costa Rica to start on my second Gap Adventures trip that will run all around Costa Rica for 15 days.

After that, I will wake up in Quito on October 2nd where I will start on my third clinical assistant volunteer position in local clinics of Ecuador and will be staying with a host family there as well.

No no still not over yet...

Somewhere around November 3/th I will get to La Paz, Bolivia to do my last program through CFHI as a clinical assistant and as usual staying with a local host family.

Finally, at some point, around December 4/6th, I will leave Bolivia and head back H-O-M-E.

Sometimes, I am seating on my sofa for HOURS just thinking of all the schemes possible of how this trip could turn out be like...I would be scared to death, or happy, or excited, or shaking, or having second thoughts...but in the end, I would calm down...and I am still getting ready to GO and I've been counting the days until my departure date...

All my friends are excited for me, even though they also worry about me and give me a lot of advices. And my parents, they are scared to death, they believe in me and trust my judgement so when I said I wanted to do it they just allowed me, but deep somewhere I bet they believe I won't be able to pull it off and will want to come back sooner. Few years back, I think that's exactly what I would have done, they know me well. But I believe I changed, and I want to trust my guts and say that I will adapt, I will be fine over there and I will prove them wrong. SMILE .
